The diversity of tree species found in Ecclesall Woods makes them the ideal location to take advantage of the varying colours of autumnal foliage.

The session will cover: getting the most out of your camera equipment; matching the lighting conditions to the subject; and how to produce eye-catching compositions. All of which will be supported by the expert botanical and seasonal knowledge of your host.

All types of camera are welcome although some of the workshop will be devoted to using SLRs. If you have them, please bring tripods and filters with you. A spare tripod will be available to try out if you wish to do so.

Each workshop is limited to a maximum of ten participants and lasts for four hours.  This event is run in association with Sheffield Woodland Connections and is supported by Sheffield City Council.

2019 photographic workshop in Padley Gorge, Grindleford

Join me for a women only photography workshop in picturesque Padley Gorge, Derbyshire. We will be looking at the unique challenges of woodland photography, concentrating on optimising lighting conditions and how to compose striking tree and plant portraits.  

Maximum group size: eight.

There are hill ascents and descents on both walks, and paths can be both wet and muddy.  Please wear suitable footwear and warm/waterproof clothing.

The workshops are suitable for beginners and enthusiasts alike. Please contact franhalsall@googlemail.com for advice on what equipment to bring.

All workshops are from 10am – 5pm and start from Grindleford Station Cafe, where we will meet at 9.30am onwards. We will also return there for lunch (not included in the ticket price).

Woolley Wood is an ancient woodland that is justifiably famous for its spring wildflowers, especially the dense carpets of bluebells that captivate the senses.

The session will cover: getting the most out of your camera equipment; matching the lighting conditions to the subject; and how to produce eye-catching compositions. All of which will be supported by the expert botanical and seasonal knowledge of your host.
